The Tinderbox
On the outskirts of a country, a war rages on and on, while at its centre a king rules with an iron first. When a disillusioned solider returns from the front and comes into the possession of a magical tinderbox that can grant him anything he wishes, the storm clouds begin to gather.
Bristol Old Vic Theatre, 2014, directed by Lisa Gregan.
“Silva Semerciyan has turned Hans Christian Andersen’s brief, frightening tale The Tinderbox…into an epic, devastating story. The result is a timeless lesson about the lengths parents will go to to save their own child, or the lengths those with power will go to to retain it”
